Get to know Google Ads, then work through setup, measurement and optimization in order. Start at the step you need and return to the foundations whenever a concept needs a closer look.

Start with the foundations

Read in order

  1. Someone types “adjustable desk lamp”. That's different from casually browsing images: they have a question they're expressing through search. Search campaigns in Google Ads let you show ads connected to searches. They're one campaign type, not the whole of Google advertising.

  2. Imagine a B2B service campaign reporting dozens of conversions while sales finds no qualified inquiries. Before changing bidding, inspect the actions: are form submissions, phone clicks and service requests combined into one number? First define what deserves to count as a result.

  3. Structure Google Search campaigns around intent and the offer

Two people search for the same service: one types the business name, while the other looks for a solution without choosing a provider. One blended average may look tidy, but it does not explain where results come from or how messaging should improve.

  4. International Google Ads operations require more than opening campaigns in additional countries.

  5. Search and Performance Max: separate attribution shifts from business growth

Performance Max revenue rises while Search revenue falls by almost the same amount. Has the business gained new demand, or has demand moved between reporting columns? The campaign dashboard starts the investigation; it cannot answer the question alone.

  6. Your campaign lowers form-submission cost, but sales says most enquiries are unsuitable. Before looking for a new audience, ask whether measurement knows which enquiry became a serious opportunity. If not, a step is missing between the ad dashboard and the sale.
